Algerian Scholars and Competences Abroad (“Algerian SCA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website algeriansca-dz.org (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.
We are committed to protecting your privacy in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Algerian Law No. 18-07 of 10 June 2018 on the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data.
What data we collect
We only collect data you choose to give us. Specifically:
- Newsletter and announcement subscriptions: when you sign up through a form on our Site, we collect your first name and email address.
- Technical data: like most websites, our hosting and security systems may automatically record limited technical information such as IP address and browser type, for security and to keep the Site running.
We do not operate member accounts, user profiles, or logins for visitors. We do not collect payment information, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Why we collect it and our legal basis
- To send you our newsletter and announcements about events, opportunities, scholarships, and competitions based on your consent, which you give through a double opt-in process (see below).
- To keep the Site secure and functioning based on our legitimate interest in protecting the Site and its visitors.
How the newsletter sign-up works (double opt-in)
When you subscribe, you receive a confirmation email and are only added to our list after you click the confirmation link. This confirms your consent and prevents anyone from signing you up without your permission. Every email we send includes a clear unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
Who processes your data (Brevo)
We use Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) to manage our subscriber list and send emails. Brevo acts as our data processor. Brevo is headquartered in France and stores subscriber data on servers within the European Union, in compliance with GDPR. Your name and email are shared with Brevo solely for the purpose of delivering our communications. Brevo’s own privacy practices are available at brevo.com.
News content on our Site
Our Site republishes short summaries, headlines, and links to science and technology news from third-party sources. We display only a title, a brief summary, the source name, and a link to the original article. Full articles remain on the original publisher’s website. This activity does not involve collecting any personal data from you.
How long we keep your data
We keep your subscription data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our active list. Some records may be retained by Brevo as required to demonstrate that valid consent was given.
Your rights
Under GDPR and Algerian Law 18-07, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- request deletion of your data;
- withdraw your consent at any time;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- request a copy of your data in a portable format;
